THE CASE:

Our role included offering expertise to the public organization that provides the official statistics on scientific and research activity in Greece, so as to produce and delineate, through full-scale analyses, standard indicators which convey the regional dimension of the research system in the country and measure the contribution of the business sector to research, development and innovation. For this purpose, we made recommendations for the production of globally established indicators that could be used in combination, exploiting not only data regularly collected by the organization but also data from other sources, which could be respectively interpreted to shed light on the regional research and innovation ecosystems. These indicators could additionally be related to current policies (e.g. Smart Specialisation Strategy) and monitor their results, so that policy makers gain a panoramic view of their impact on economy and society and take further steps in the right direction. Finally, our advanced methodology was featured in a special edition for the presentation of Research & Development across the thirteen regions of the country.
